Acer has always been a name that has been well known for producing some great laptops. This year, they decided to do something different and introduce a new concept. The Acer ConceptD 7 is a convertible laptop that can be used in different ways.
It is a perfect laptop for someone who is looking for a laptop that can be used for graphics design, programming, and as a mobile workstation. This review will be looking at the Acer ConceptD 7 laptop to see if it is worth buying.

Acer ConceptD 7: Price and availability
The Acer ConceptD 7 is priced at $2,299.99/£2,299/AU $3,999.It’s one of the most expensive laptops in the world, but it’s priced competitively when compared to the base price of the MacBook Pro (16-inch), which starts at $2,399 (£2,399).
The laptop comes with a 15.6-inch 4K display, 32GB of RAM, a six-core Intel Core i7 processor, a 1TB SSD, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card with 6GB of memory.
In comparison to the 16-inch MacBook Pro, the Acer ConceptD 7 offers even better value.

The ConceptD 7 has a much more restrained design compared to Acer’s gaming laptops, such as the Helios line. This is consistent with the ConceptD 7’s positioning as a professional laptop. The laptop looks like Acer’s gaming laptop, but its color scheme is white with yellow RGB backlighting for the keys.
It’s a design you’d certainly be comfortable using in a studio, office, or meeting room, but rather than being stylishly minimalist, we think it’s a little dull. It might be the all-white design, which is a nice change from all-black laptops, but doesn’t catch the eye.
In the past, we’ve seen white-and light-colored gadgets look pretty grubby, but with the ConceptD 7, the laptop stayed as white and vibrant as when we first unpacked it, and Acer says its stain-resistant coating prevents yellowing and marking from dirt, ink, and coffee.
Additionally, it doesn’t have the premium look and feel of metal laptops like the MacBook Pro.
While the ConceptD 7 has dimensions of 17.90 x 358.5 x 255 mm and a weight of 2.10 kg, it’s not as slim as the MacBook Pro 16-inch, which has dimensions of 16.2 x 357.9 x 245.9 mm and weighs 2 kg.
It might not seem like a big difference, but when comparing the two laptops side-by-side or carrying them around, you can definitely tell the differences. Compared to the MacBook Air, the MacBook Pro feels more solid and has a classier appearance.
There is one area where the ConceptD 7 absolutely outclasses the MacBook Pro 16″ and justifies its larger size and shape.
Acer ConceptD 7 has three USB 3.1 ports, a full-size HDMI 2.0 port, a Mini DisplayPort 1.4 port, Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port, and an Ethernet port.
Compared to a MacBook Pro, this makes it much more versatile. You want a laptop that supports pluggable devices so that you don’t have to fiddle with adapters when working on it. Acer ConceptD 7 excels in this regard.
The only thing missing is a memory card slot, which will disappoint photographers. However, it has more ports than the MacBook Pro.
The IPS screen is another standout, offering 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160), and its bezels are impressively thin. The display is bright and vibrant, and it is factory-calibrated, so it looks amazing right out of the box.
It has been Pantone validated, supports 100% of the Adobe RGB color gamut, and has been calibrated to achieve a low Delta E average, all of which ensure that the screen provides accurate colors, which is essential for those working in creative fields and what distinguishes this laptop from its competitors.
Both the trackpad and the keyboard perform well. Despite how fast you type, the keys on the keyboard are large enough to hit accurately, and the warm glow of the backlight matches the white color scheme of the laptop beautifully. The travel app isn’t that deep, but it still feels responsive and intuitive.
The trackpad is adequate, responds well to multi-touch gestures, and is of a decent size. Nevertheless, most people (including us) will likely use a standard mouse for most of the tasks the ConceptD 7 is designed to perform.

The Acer ConceptD 7 we reviewed includes 32GB of RAM, an Intel Core i7-9750H six-core processor, an Nvidia RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics card, and a 1TB SSD. The specifications of this product are impressive, which explains why it performs brilliantly in both benchmark tests and day-to-day tasks.

If you’re an artist who also likes playing video games, then the ConceptD 7 is a more convenient choice, since it’s highly versatile.
Are you just looking for a laptop to browse the web and edit a few photos? This is definitely not the one for you.
Acer ConceptD 7: Battery life
The battery life of the ConceptD 7 isn’t great, as is often the case with powerful laptops. In our benchmark test, which runs a looped 1080p video, lasted for five hours and 59 minutes.
That’s not a problem and will last you at least all day, but remember that playing a video isn’t very demanding. The battery will drain much faster if you perform more intensive tasks, such as rendering 3D graphics.
During the PCMark 8 battery tests, which simulate more intensive workloads such as browsing the web, creating documents, and video conferencing, the battery lasted just four hours and seven minutes. This is more in line with the battery life you’ll experience, and it means you won’t want to leave the charger behind.
In our battery test, the MacBook Pro 16-inch managed 11 hours and 41 minutes compared to the Acer ConceptD 7, proving that you can have powerful components and a long battery life.
It’s worth buying if
Color accuracy is of paramount importance: Thanks to its factory-calibrated screen, the ConceptD 7 is ideal if you need color accuracy for creative work.
You need a really powerful mobile workstation: With some of the best mobile technology available right now, the Acer ConceptD 7 laptop is incredibly powerful. If you’re planning to do a lot of 3D rendering, this is a brilliant laptop to consider.

It’s not worth it if
You have a limited budget: Laptops like the Acer ConceptD 7 are extremely expensive. This isn’t too surprising, considering the technology it includes, but its price tag puts it beyond the reach of many.
It’s either Word or the Internet for you: In terms of performance, the Acer ConceptD 7 is an incredibly powerful laptop, which makes it ideal for heavy workloads. It’s useless if you are only using it for general day-to-day tasks.
You’re looking for a gaming laptop: Despite Acer’s reputation for making gaming laptops and the Acer ConceptD 7’s components (especially its RTX graphics card) making it a formidable gaming laptop, it’s not specifically designed for gaming. Furthermore, you would be paying for features (the calibrated screen and 32GB of RAM) that you would not use.
The Verdict
In terms of power, the Acer ConceptD 7 is a very capable mobile workstation aimed at creative professionals who require a powerful laptop for handling tasks such as 3D rendering. You might consider the Acer ConceptD 7 to be worth it’s (very high) asking price if that applies to you. For most people, however, there are better options available.
