So I finally got around to getting a powerline adapter for my router and I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, but I was a little skeptical because I didn’t really know how to hook up the powerline to the router. Luckily, the TP-Link AV600 Powerline Starter Kit has an easy-to-follow set of instructions and I was able to do this in about 15 minutes.
The TP-Link AV600 Powerline Starter Kit is a little pricey, but I would definitely recommend getting it. The Powerline Starter Kit is a wireless router and a powerline adapter. The router is an 802.11n dual-band router and the powerline adapter is a powerline mesh kit that plugs into your home network router.
The TP-Link AV600 Kit includes a powerline adapter, an optional powerline splitter kit, a wall plate, and a user manual. The Powerline Starter Kit is compatible with any home network router.
TP-Link AV600 Powerline Starter Kit: Overview
The wireless connection in my house is not the best, it must be the way the house is constructed because even with the router in the room where the laptop is, the signal isn’t strong. In order to have a more reliable and stable connection, I had to run a cable around the room. In any case, I prefer cabled internet anyway.
What I had a problem with was trying to connect the Smart TV in the bedroom to the internet so that I could watch Netflix and NowTV. The wireless in the bedroom did not work. Rather than run another ethernet cable, especially through the walls, I bought a wireless extender which solved the problem (and did not put holes in the wall).
With this TP-Link AV600 Powerline Starter Kit, you can get an Internet connection through your plug sockets using the existing electricity cables in your home. This allows you to have an internet connection in any room of the house. It is significantly better than the unstable wireless connection I used with my wireless extender in my house.
There are two 600Mbps 10/100 Ethernet Powerline ports included in the TP-Link PA4010KIT AV600 Nano Powerline Starter Kit, along with two 1 meter Ethernet cables. Each powerline has an ethernet port. With the powerline, you can make every 3-pin power plug in your house into an internet outlet.
Plugging any device with an Ethernet port (there are also versions that act as wireless extensions, you can see more here) into the box will allow you to connect to the internet. Especially if you have a house like mine with a weak wireless signal, this is an excellent idea.
TP-Link AV600 Powerline Starter Kit Review: Set up
Since it is such a good idea, you probably think it must be complicated to configure it and get it ready for use? Actually, it’s not that hard. In fact, it’s so simple that you only need to plug it in.
My television is connected to the powerline in my bedroom. Despite the fact that it’s a Smart TV, it doesn’t have a great wireless signal. A powerline was connected to a plug socket near my router, and the supplied ethernet cable was connected to the router. Using the ethernet cable, I connected the other to the ethernet port on my television and then plugged it into the bedroom as well.
No configuration is required; the two powerlines automatically detect and pair with each other. I can now watch Netflix and internet streaming without experiencing any signal loss on my television thanks to an uninterrupted internet connection. To protect your data, the powerlines are also equipped with 128-bit AES encryption.
TP-Link AV600 Powerline Starter Kit: Performance
Since I’ve started using powerlines to stream video (SD and HD) from my computer to my television in the bedroom, I haven’t had a single connection drop. The powerlines work over a distance of up to 300 meters, so I should be able to use them in every room in my house. Additionally, they have a power-saving mode, which reduces their power consumption by up to 85% when not in use.
The powerline can be extended to connect to other rooms in the house (or office) if you need more connections (provided the power sockets are all on the same fuse board).
Pros and Cons
|The good||The bad|
My overall impression of TP-Link Powerlines is very positive. In conclusion, the TP-Link PA4010KIT AV600 Nano Powerline Starter Kit is an excellent product and an inexpensive way to extend your internet connection into other rooms without the hassle of running cables throughout the house. They are suitable for streaming tv, movies and music, gaming, and home networking needs.
They are extremely easy to install as no configuration is needed, so anybody can install them in minutes. They can be used for streaming TV, movies and music, gaming, and home networking.
